Monarch Butterfly Photo-Op

One of the master gardeners in my town asked me to paint a large monarch butterfly installation inspired by one at a butterfly conservatory in Key West.
I carefully made a pattern out of paper, then master gardener Anabela Tortorell cut it out of plywood, sanded, and primed the butterfly. I drew the markings on the butterfly with chalk based on a photo to ensure every part was accurate, and over a few days, filled in the markings with paint to add color and detail.
Once the butterfly was finished, it was painted with a UV-protective clear varnish and was installed on a post in the 4-H Madge Merritt Teaching Garden for all to see and enjoy. The garden is so much brighter now that there's a butterfly among the flowers!
"I met Beth Fajcz about two years ago while volunteering as a Master Gardener. I love her optimism, creativity, and commitment in all that she does. She designed, painted, and helped install this large monarch butterfly that visitors to the Madge Merritt Garden get to stand in front of for a fun photograph."

Neighborhood Lending Library

Our neighborhood association wanted to put up a small lending library, and I was asked to paint it. As an artist and avid reader, I was excited to take on this wonderful community project.
My younger sister helped me prime the wooden library, and then I started adding decorative painting. I was inspired by the designs found on Swedish painted trunks, which makes the library eye-catching and lots of fun!
Now that the library is installed, I'm proud to have had the opportunity to create a functional and beautiful fixture in my neighborhood!
"Last year the Ashley Marsh HOA decided to get a Lending Library for our neighborhood gazebo. We purchased one that was unpainted and Beth volunteered to paint it for us. It is whimsical, with lots of detailed artwork and design details. She did a great job! I would highly recommend her for art and design projects."
