Welcome to my illustration portfolio! I'm a U.S. based illustrator with a passion for book illustrations and editorial work.
My illustrations are created primarily with colored pencil or black ink, bringing fantasy worlds to life through vibrant color, dramatic composition, and intricately rendered detail. Lush foliage, ornate decoration, and a touch of the fantastical define my style, which draws inspiration from the richly illustrated fairy tale collections of the early 20th century.

Lúthien Feeds the Nightingales

I was inspired by a passage in The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien that describes the beauty of Lúthien as she dances among the hemlocks and sings with the nightingales.
Art Nouveau tangled lines provided the framework for the trees and hemlock, and it is rendered in a pen and ink style reminiscent of book illustrations from the time period.

Melkor Wanders the Void

In The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, Melkor searches the void for the Secret Fire, intending to claim it for himself. Melkor's robes and crown demonstrate his power, and the contrast between dark and light foreshadow the weight his actions would carry for Middle-Earth.
One of my favorites from Inktober 2024, I felt I had begun to master pen and ink illustration as I admired it in vintage books. The challenge of depicting a void was overcome by expressing the dynamism of the action through lines.

Maedhros Grasps the Silmaril

From The Silmarillion by J.R.R Tolkien, the elf Maedhros, in the moment he has waited for his whole life, regains a Silmaril but realizes he is no longer worthy to own it when it burns his hand. In this climactic image, the Oath of Fëanor is fulfilled, and everything Maedhros strove for, even losing his hand, was finished. The Silmaril illuminates his armor and red hair as, in a last act of passion, he throws himself into a fiery crevice in the earth.
I chose vibrant, contrasting colors to bring this legendary scene to life, and kept the background simple to focus on the action.

Turgon, King of Gondolin

In The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, Turgon was the king of Gondolin, a hidden elvish stronghold in the mountains. He was over-confident in the strength of his city, but his pride became the downfall of Gondolin.
Turgon is shown here pondering his life's work of building the elven refuge, his hair streaming in the wind and the cool tones signs of an oncoming winter. I choose this moment to make a close study of his face, with strong highlights on his hair and crown.

Aredhel Saves Maeglin

In a poignant scene from The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, Aredhel steps in front of her son to take the javelin and save his life in a moment of self-sacrifice. Dramatic drapery and an Art Nouveau medallion tie together the scene of a mother's sacrifice.
I was honored to have this illustration featured in the August 2025 edition of a Tolkien Society publication, Amon Hen.
